Thinking about my case if it needed to be reconditioned, then also looked at the bearings and saw brass so decided to get it done. So this is how it looked:

Got the crank reground and case savers put in. V&T Motors did the machining for me. It was pretty funny I have been reading books to try and figure out how to go about fixing it etc., and the manuals suggested I call up and ask for an exchange case. I called V&T Motors (down here in SA) and the guy laughed - haha -, said he hadn't had exchange motors for 20-30 years. But out the back V&T Motors had all the old genuine VW machining stuff, He told me they used to be machining motors 24/6 for VW's and now he hardly does 1 a month. Sad, but bloody brilliant workmanship, and great to talk to.

We have just got our 75 bay Kombi. Took it to Adelaide for Easter and we had a breakdown on the way back to Melbourne. A very nice man stopped in his white Kombi ute to see if all was ok. The RAA came out to have a look, but no good so we had to have it towed. So we booked it in at V&T Motors - they found water in the tank. Fix it up and away we went.

John, the manager of V&T Motors has been there for 20 years. Three mechanics and a history of VW's. If you give him a call make sure you give yourself an hour or so. They helped fit my suby motor and he has always got air-cooled units in there. John will always call to talk about anything he finds before he moves on.

V&T Motors are a family mechanic workshop that has been operating for about 40 years. I use them to service my Toyota RAV4 (SUV) and have always been impressed with their service and attention to details. They are RAA recommended and specialise in SUVs, 4WDs and light commercial vehicles.
